Travel Tips

Planning a trip to the Maldives and wondering what to wear? You’re not alone. With year-round tropical weather, postcard-perfect beaches, and island vibes, choosing the right outfits can make your holiday more comfortable and enjoyable.

Whether you’re strolling along the shores of Embudu Village, heading out on a sunset cruise, or snorkelling in crystal-clear lagoons, here’s everything you need to know about what to wear in the Maldives.

1. Keep It Light, Loose & Breathable

The Maldives enjoys warm weather all year round, with temperatures averaging between 28°C to 32°C. Lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and rayon are your best friends. Think flowy sundresses, breezy tops, tank tops, and comfortable shorts.

Tip: Neutral tones or tropical prints not only look great in photos but also blend perfectly with the natural surroundings of Embudu Village.

2. Swimwear Essentials

Of course, swimwear is a must! Pack a few swimsuits so you always have a dry one ready for your next dip. Whether you’re snorkelling in the house reef or lounging on the beach, you’ll be spending lots of time in the water.

While bikinis and one-pieces are perfectly acceptable at the resort and on excursions, remember to cover up when you’re walking around shared spaces like the restaurant or reception. A light sarong or beach cover-up is ideal for transitioning from beach to buffet.

3. Evening Casuals

Evenings at Embudu Village are relaxed and informal. While there’s no dress code, some guests may opt for smart-casual looks – think maxi dresses, casual shirts, or light trousers.

Sandals or flip-flops are perfect for most occasions, but you might want to bring one pair of closed shoes if you want a slightly more polished evening look.

4. Sun Protection is Key

The tropical sun in the Maldives can be strong, so sun protection is a must.

  • Wide-brimmed hats or caps
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Rash guards for snorkelling or kayaking (especially if you burn easily)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen to protect both your skin and the delicate marine life

5. Respecting Local Customs

If you’re visiting local islands or heading into Malé, it’s important to dress modestly out of respect for local customs. Cover your shoulders and knees, and avoid swimwear or revealing clothing outside of resort areas.

At Embudu Village, which is a private resort island, you’re free to wear what’s comfortable, but always be mindful when stepping outside the resort.
