There is something special about being in the water around Embudu Village. With the island’s house reef just a short swim from the shore, the underwater world is never far away. But for some guests, getting comfortable in the water or learning how to breathe and move properly can take a little practice.
On , guests at Embudu Village had the opportunity to take part in a Snorkelling Skills Session led by national record holder freediver Umair Badeeu.
The practical session was designed to help guests feel more comfortable, confident and relaxed in the water while learning some useful skills that can make snorkelling a more enjoyable experience.
The session began with practical techniques on land before guests headed into the water. Umair introduced participants to safe breathing practices, basic equalisation techniques and the fundamentals of snorkelling.
For those who are already comfortable in the water, it was an opportunity to improve their technique. For beginners, it provided a chance to learn the basics in a relaxed and supportive environment.

After around 20 to 30 minutes of dry practical training, the session continued with an hour of guided snorkelling practice in the water.
Putting the techniques into practice made the experience more interactive, allowing participants to become familiar with their breathing, movement and positioning while snorkelling.
With the clear waters surrounding Embudu Village and the island’s vibrant house reef, there was no better place to put these new skills to use.

Snorkelling is one of the simplest ways to discover the underwater world of the Maldives. At Embudu Village, guests can explore the house reef directly from the island and encounter a variety of marine life beneath the surface.
Whether it is your first time snorkelling or you already spend plenty of time in the water, learning a few simple techniques can make each swim a little more enjoyable.
The Snorkelling Skills Session is part of the many ways guests can connect with the ocean during their stay at Embudu Village. From snorkelling and diving to water sports and excursions, the island offers plenty of opportunities to discover the Maldives beyond the beach.
